"Got Null for XML document root"

Postby admin on Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:23 pm

The error message "Got Null for XML document root" shows up occasionally. The cause and solution appear to be the same as described here, reproduced below.
The error message in the subject line is pretty rare but it has shown up in situations where there is a large number of clips, sometimes over a thousand, in the project. When PluralEyes requests the project information, Final Cut fails. We have not determined exactly how many clips is the maximum. A couple of hundred clips is OK; 1200 clips is not.

The workaround is straightforward: it is unlikely that you are trying to sync a thousand clips, so create a copy of the project that has just the clips you want to sync.

I would hazard an additional observation about this error message. It doesn't have to be necessarily 1000 or so clips in the time line but just a really large project file with lots of assets, that can cause this error. The workaround did work for me as i simply created a new project and only imported the files I wanted to work with during this session. Peace and good will.

This solution by wolfjam worked for me!
I'm now working on a concert multicam project with 6 camera's,hundreds of clips and around a terabyte of material. I synced about 14 clips without a problem and then this error showed up witch i have solved by creating a new project.

Thanks to wolfjam!

I’ve been using PluralEyes to sync internal 5D sound with external recorded sound from a better source.
After an initial issue or two everything was working great, what a time saver.
Then for some reason I started getting the: Got Null XML document root error. I’m not working with multiclips just one 5D clip and one audio clip at a time. I did however start a new project with just the clips I want to sync, I also tried restarting, and reinstalling, nothing has worked.
I also tried a different set of clips thinking there may be some corruption, no go. The clips that did work were transcoded at the same time and in the same way. One minute everything was working and then the next not.
Any ideas????

Thanks!

@niedorf: Since you started with a fresh project it is not clear what could be causing the problem. Please send us the project and log files as described on the page below and we'll investigate.

This just started to happen to me too. Shortly ago I had another issue with Pluraleyes saying there is file.

And there is no where near as many files as i usually use. I'm at the beginning of my project.
