Singular Software Presto™ Video Gallery

Welcome to our Presto video gallery. These selected presentations demonstrate how post-production using Presto allows you to produce an up-close-and-personal image of the speaker right alongside their crisp, clear slides, with a quick turnaround time. The production notes associated with each presentation highlight how Presto helped put these together.

Atimi in the Mobile App Marketplace

Scott Michaels is a veteran of the mobile app marketplace in his key role as VP of Client Services at Atimi Software Inc., one of the largest independent Apple development houses. In this short excerpt of his presentation to MoMoVan, Scott takes us inside the fast-paced world of mobile app development.

Recorded at MoMoVan (Mobile Monday Vancouver), July 11, 2011. You can see the full video on Bruce's blog

Production notes:

  • This presentation video serves to highlight some new features in our latest release of Presto for Final Cut Pro, including rounded corners on the slides, new transitions, and a new style of two-up auto-tracking layout with the background fading out behind the slide. This type of layout works well when the background behind the presenter is not simply a black curtain. Thanks to both PluralEyes and Presto, once we had the media off the cameras and into FCP, and the slides exported from Scott's Keynote presentation, getting this presentation ready for final editing and rendering took only a matter of minutes.

A brief history of sustainable architecture in Canada

In this presentation David Ramslie, sustainable development program manager for the City of Vancouver, offers an overview of the green building movement in Canada, including present and future building innovations. Recorded at Pecha Kucha Vancouver 12, June 2010.

Production notes:

  • This event, attended by over 2000 people, launched the City of Vancouver's "Greenest City" initiative, and their TalkGreenToUs.ca website.  Using Presto, we were able to create a total of 17 videos for their website within three days of the event. (View the full set of videos here).

A personal perspective on adventure

Whether he is manhauling to the South Pole in record time, skiing the Iditarod trail, or slogging through the jungles of Borneo, Canadian explorer and architect Kevin Vallely finds himself wrestling with the question:"What are you looking for?" Recorded at Pecha Kucha Vancouver 11, May 2010.

Production notes:

  • This venue had three screens: an event title slide, a live twitter feed, and the slides. (See the sample project for details on production for this event.) The screen presenting the slides was typically the farthest from the presenter, so trying to capture any reasonable detail of the presenter and their slides in a single shot was just not possible. Presto makes putting the presenter and slides together easy by automatically syncing the original slide images with a separate video of the projection screen.

  • Notice also that this speaker really liked to move around on the stage. Presto's automatic tracking of the presenter means that the camera operator does not need to track tightly, and saves a lot of manual pan-crop tracking work in post-production.

Good science: It takes an (online) village

Inspired by the success of Pokémon®, David Ng's group at the University of British Columbia has successfully leveraged a web community to rapidly develop Phylo, a trading card game that fosters an appreciation for biodiversity. Recorded at Northern Voice 2010, May 2010.

Production notes:

  • This longer presentation illustrates a variety of layouts and transitions supported by Presto. David Ng is another dynamic presenter who loves to make use of the full space available to him up front. His talk was so interesting that the camera operator (who shall remain nameless) occasionally let him move out of shot. Switching to Presto's slides-only layout can cover up some of these mistakes, and is also important for getting a closer look at slides with a lot of detail.

Promotional products for companies with a conscience

Denise Taschereau explains her career trajectory from a degree in environmental management to self-professed "swag baron" and owner of Fairware promotional products. Her passion for helping companies align their corporate buying with their values stems from an awareness that individual choices "in high volume" have a huge impact. Recorded during Pecha Kucha Vancouver 12, June 2010.

Production notes:

  • You can see an alternative version of this presentation done using a handheld camera close to the stage. While it succeeds in capturing both the presenter and projection screen in the shot, the presenter is overwhelmed by the spotlights, illustrating why recording the presenter independently of the screen leads to a better result, especially with Presto to put it all together.

Fearless City: Communication technology as a human right

A long-time advocate for social change, Irwin Oostindie is bringing digital media to the underprivileged in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Recorded at Pecha Kucha Vancouver 11, May 2010.

Production notes:

  • A nice set of slides including colour maps that would have looked washed-out if we had used the original video of the screen. A good example of how using the original slide images greatly improves the clarity and power of the visual communication.
